It is illegal for a man to have sexual relations with a girl (under the age of 16 years old). If he is caught, he can be charged in court even if the girl agreed to having sexual relations with him. This law protects girls against sexual offenders (especially young girls who may be sexually assaulted/ raped). Do you think this law is fair to males?
Also, do you think there should be laws that prohibit sex below a certain age (e.g. below 16 years old?)

I thought there are already laws that prohibit sexual relations below 16 years old in Singapore?
Everything is unfair in this world, I believe.
Much to the extent of this topic, as a person you need to have a control of your own mind and body. Making decisions doesn’t come without thinking. Every person should know what is right and what is wrong.
Males, being so-called the more dominant side will be given away like I said being more dominant than the females. Everyone has their own weaknesses.
It’s desire that brought anyone away from total consciousness. Males tend to have a lost in that more than females.
Sad for those females who agreed to have sexual relations and take advantage of the males for some reasons; hatred or jealousy.
This law is set to protect girls from sexual offenders, especially those below 16 years old. Some girls below 16 years old has not yet matured mentally,it is easy to trick them into agreeing to have sex.If this law was to be removed, sexual offenders can simply tricked those girls into agreeing to have sex and if he were to be sued,he can simply argue that the girl has agreed to have sex, making him not guilty.
I think that this law also helps protect the men to a certain extent. If a girl below 16 were to agree to have sex with a innocent men, this law helps remind the men that he should not be having sex with underaged girls. After all,we all agree that it is wrong for a 30 year old men to be having sex with a 15 year old girl,or two people who doesn't love each other to be having sex.
Yes, the law prohibits sex among minors (below 16 years old). Are you of the view that teenagers should be given the right to decide when they are "mature" enough to have sex? Or do you think this doesn't matter?
i personally think that we should uphold this law.
this is to reduce the population of people with AIDs and any other STDs.
this is so because i believe this is one of the few reasons why we must uphold this law.
i think the law is fair as we don't really need to have sex at such young age, so the restriction should not be negative. why risk having babies when you are not prepared to take care of them and abortion is cruel, it is the same as killing a life unless the female party wants to give birth to it and let other people adopt it.
there should be laws to prohibit sex below a certain age as children mature at a certain age. some people may not know what exactly are they doing and may regret doing it in the future. so there should be an age limit for sex then when they are legal to have sex, they will understand and know exactly what they are doing.
Apply this laws would greatly reduce the AIDS and STDs in the world. As a man, i would learn how to respect a girl, instead of doing disrespectful things to them. We should learn to control ourselves well instead of applying those laws, which we afraid to be punished and stop those actions.
It may seem unfair to males, because if they have sexual relations with an under age girl, they will certainly be charged if the girl decides to sue him, even though the girl agrees on it in the first place.
However, I will still take the stand that as a girl under age of 16, one’s chastity is very precious and even if one has accede to the male’s request, the girl may be too young to know anything. Young girls are innocent. They may not know what they are going to do very clearly and they want to ‘explore’. It may also be under television’s influence that girls want to ‘venture’ into such thing.
As for matured adults, the same thing applies. Although they may be matured, television programmes may have an impact on them too. They will want to be like the actors in tv and follow what the actors do in real life. Only after they have sex, the girls will then regret their decision.
To protect all girls, I think all these laws should be implemented.
16 years old is a good age for deciding whether a person is mature or not. But it is still unfair for us male to be sued IF the girl agrees in the 1st place.
What if the girl purposely go around having sex with other boys. All boys need to be jailed like this? This law is implemented to protect the girls but then how about the boys?
I dont think that law is fair towards the male.yes mostly when couples are together, the guys would initiate to do "it" first. However there could have some girls that would initiate it first. these make the guy vulnerable to the law.
Males tend to lose out to females. Some underage females who agree to have sex will definately take advantage of the males just to keep them by their sides. If the males decided to leave the girl, the girl will use law to threaten them.
But i think law is right to make age limits for both parties to have sex because teenagers are still young and immature. what if the girl is pregnant? who will take care of the baby?
I dont think ALL teenagers are yet matured at the age of 16.
Underaged sex. Some could be forced or it might happened under unknown circumstances. (maybe she was drunk or something.) So I think the law is relatively fair to all.
Prohibition of sex below a certain age? I think that won't really help much. This really depend on the individual.
This law is justified as 16 years old is a suitable age for the person to be mature enough to bear the consequences of his or her own actions. Being of a younger age they may not be able to understand the outcome of their actions and being of such a young age, they may not be able to burden the responsibilites of their actions.
For example, in the recent case where the 9 year old school girl was found to be pregnant with a child of a 12 year old guy. How would a 9 year old child be able to raise a child on her own while she is still pursueing her own education, furthermore, her parents are also facing the burden of raising her.
This shows that the girl would ultimately face most of the consequences when there is underage sex. In such a case, the guy can simply escape from his responsibility and therefore this leaves the female in the lurch. As a result, it is only right for the law to protect the female.
If i am not wrong, theres already laws protecting girls below the age of 16 to have sexual relationship with others.
In my opinion, i dont think this law is fair to the males. It might be two willing parties at first. But like what kolene says,"Sad for those females who agreed to have sexual relations and take advantage of the males for some reasons; hatred or jealousy." Anything can happen.
Im not saying that teenagers should be given the right to decide whether they can have sex. But having sex brings risks. The risks can be pregnant,sexually-transmitted diseases(STD). Sex lasts only a few minutes of enjoyment but the consequences can be fatal. Imagine someone is infected with Acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS), there is no cure or vaccine for this disease. It can only be delayed through medications. In the end, the patient would still pass away due to AIDS.
I believed the choice of having sexual relationship lies on the couples. If they are determined to have sex, no one can stops them. It can happen whenever they want. Its a matter of choices.
yuTo a certain extent ,Desire is brought forth in both genders female and male.Curiosity in another's body is natural; Humans are curious creatures, but society desperately needs to redevelop what is acceptable in sexual growth. However , implying these laws help to reduce the chance of youths getting AIDS and STD after having sex.secondly, like jia sheng said there is a higher chance of child abortion where imature youth cannot handle or take care their babies. They tend to dump their babies anywhere hidden so as not to let anyone know about it. And that is called murdering an innocent child.however i feel that unless youth people both parties including male , not just female only are mature enough and are perpared to face any difficult and after giving birth to babies , understand what they are doing, that should not be a problem.hence i feel that singapore should imply these laws unless majority of the youths under 16 had proven out that they are mature and ready to face and handle any consequences.
Personally,I do support this law, but it is really unfair for males.
I do not deny, sometimes this law does help those "unmature" girls to protect themselves. However, what about the boys?Don't you think they also may face the same problem?Since it is illegal to have sex below 16 years old,the girl is also violating the law when she has sex.
This law is a totally unfair one.
I see discrimination against the males. When it comes to underage sex
its usually consensual, where both the male and female party agree to it.If it isn't consensual then a rape charge is brought against the man.So if underage sex is deemed illegal, then i would say both party
have to face a fair share of the consequences.
Besides i believe that girls aged between 13-15 are matured enough to
make choices for themselves so they know what they are getting into by agreeing to have sex.
Only girls who are aged 12 and below aren't matured enough to make decisions for themselves
so the government should reduce the minimum age of consent 13 years old. Then it would be fair for the males as any man who want to have sex with a girl aged 12 or under is a paedophile and deserves to be punished...
Well... Since the law has already stated that a man who have any sexual relations with any under 16 girls are illegal, then we have to go with the law right? I think it's quite fair for the boys. It is because, if this boys aren't charged, then i would say the girls in singapore will be in danger. I believe this law are her to protect girls. So I don't think it's unfair to the boys. Well and again,i do agree that, there should be laws that prohibit sex below a certain age. It is because, nowadays teenagers are always very curious about sex. So if we don't implement this law, AIDS and STDs will increase in singapore. And this could actually end many teenagers' life, which is a very wasteful thing to happen!
I think that this law should remain in the legal code to protect all girls. They will be prevented from diseases like AIDS and STDs. They also do not need to face the problems like pregnancy and adoption, and their child ending up to be an orphan. I do not think that girls (under the age of 16 years old) are mature enough to have sex; they do not know how to deal with the consequences after that.
Aged at least 20 then, can be considered a man, otherwise a boy or a teenager. Why will a man want to love someone 4 or 5 years younger then himself. If he needs a younger sister, then he shouldn't have sexual relations with her.
If the girl allows a man to have a sexual relation, then most probably that it is not boy-girl-relationship. It will be more like brother and sister love, because the girl feel protected by the man and caused confusion in differentiating the love. I feel that the law is fair to males.
There's laws that prohibit sexual relations below 16 years old in Singapore already.
